Selling your home before moving to a retirement community

blog-moving.jpgMost homeowners know that they need to make improvements to their homes to get them ready to sell as they prepare to move to a retirement community. Fresh paint and completing any unfinished projects are high on the list.

But the No. 1 improvement you can make to your home when you’re getting ready to sell is decluttering, says Eric Stewart, a Real Estate industry leader. Stewart will provide advice on how to sell your home for an optimal price during a talk at 1 p.m. Feb. 10 at Ingleside at King Farm. His talk is part of the LiveWell Forum: Conversations on a Balanced Life. Complimentary valet parking will be provided for this event.

Stewart will dispense timely information on the current state of the local real estate market and will provide tips on timing, sorting through your possessions, what questions to ask when selecting a real estate agent, and home improvements with the best rate of return for the smallest investment.

Attendees will receive free copies of Stewart’s popular “Smart Guides.” The “Rightsizing Guide,” with an emphasis on helping older folks downsize, offers practical advice on organizing and preparing for your real estate sale. The “Market Ready Guide” provides strategic advice and useful tips to get top dollar for your house when it’s time to sell.

Stewart also will provide attendees with a free market valuation of their home at their request.

Stewart is a native of the D.C. suburbs and has lived and worked in the Metro area for more than 45 years. A graduate of the University of Maryland, he started his real estate career in 1987 and each year sells more than 100 homes in Maryland, Virginia and D.C. He has completed more than 2,300 real estate transactions, which places him in the top 1 percent of Realtors in the nation.

Coming from a family of doctors, Stewart’s greatest interest is listening and prescribing a plan of action for each of his clients. He works with 50 to 60 seniors each year who are downsizing to an apartment or smaller home.

Eric hosts a weekly radio show on WMAL AM 630/105.9 FM on Sunday mornings, during which he discusses the local real estate market and provides coaching on how to “rightsize” your life. He is also the founder of Widow Care, a new Maryland-based nonprofit designed to provide support and volunteer services to widows and widowers in distress.

If you’re preparing to sell your home, you won’t want to miss this presentation!
