You’re invited to enjoy an outdoor jazz concert!

The swinging sounds of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s will waft through the grounds of Ingleside at King Farm when the Greg Harrison Jazz Band performs an outdoor concert in the gazebo at 7:30 p.m. July 30.

The band specializes in recognizable tunes from the Great American Songbook based on the small bands that were popular during the Jazz era.

Clarinetist Greg Harrison studied classical clarinet with Sidney Forrest of the Peabody Conservatory and jazz clarinet with Joseph Rinaldi. He cites renowned jazz clarinetist Pete Fountain as his greatest influence—in fact, Fountain is the reason Harrison started serious clarinet studies and was inspired to form the band. He became a fan of the New Orleans clarinetist at age 12 and continues to be inspired by him today. He performs on a LeBlanc Pete Fountain model clarinet that was given to him by Fountain.

The Greg Harrison Jazz Band has performed for more than 30 years in the D.C. Metro area. It is noted for long engagements at local establishments that usually book performers for one-night stands. The band played for eight years at Evans Farm Inn in McLean, Va.; seven years at Henry Africa’s Restaurant in Olde Town, Alexandria, and five years at the Timpano Restaurant in Rockville. In addition, the band performs at parties and other gatherings throughout the region.

Besides Harrison’s clarinet, the band’s instrumentation usually includes guitar, keyboards, bass and drums. It’s often joined by some of the region’s premier jazz vocalists.

Ingleside at King Farm is a Continuing Care Retirement Community that provides a full calendar of life enrichment activities for our active and engaged members. Located in the exciting intergenerational community of King Farm, we enjoy building relationships with this diverse neighborhood.
