Health Academy

 

INGLESIDE AT KING FARM HEALTH ACADEMY
Sponsored by The High School Health Education Foundation

 

 

Health AcademyIngleside at King Farm and William R. Leahy, M.D., President of the High School Health Education Foundation, present the Nursing Assistant Program as a free community service through Montgomery College to help train young people for a career in health care.

Approximately 15 high school juniors and seniors from Gaithersburg High School will be selected to participate in the after school program for one semester.

The after school classes will be taught in two hour sessions, three days a week and the program will last 15 weeks. The course includes 90 hours of classroom instruction and 60 hours of nursing home clinicals.

At the end of the course, students will be eligible to apply for Nursing Assistant State Certification. Additionally, students may apply to sit for Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) Exam.

 

WE ARE LOOKING FOR RESPONSIBLE AND CARING HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS AND SENIORS INTERESTED IN A CAREER IN HEALTHCARE

 

EXPECTATIONS
Students selected for the program must be responsible community members with an interest in learning basic health care skills, and providing health services to those with physical or other needs. Students need not be college bound.

Ingleside at King Farm Health Academy, in partnership with Montgomery College, The High School Health Education Foundation and Gaithersburg High School provides High School Juniors and Seniors with the training and experience necessary to pass the certifying exam and begin a career in health care.

The goal of the program is to Educate, Encourage and Employ!

Application Instructions

Successful applicants will provide a package with the following information:

  • A one-page essay explaining why you want to be in the Certified Nursing Assistant program

  • A brief autobiographical sketch (not more than 1 page)

  • A copy of your most recent transcript; and

  • A letter of reference from your school guidance counselor, employer, minister, or other responsible adult

Those selected will be expected to attend all classes, clinicals, complete their homework, take weekly quizzes, mid-term and final exams, and complete the class with a grade of 80% or above.

Health AcademyWith skill and compassion, nursing assistants play a vital role in healthcare. Ingleside at King Farm and its members are proud to play a part in helping young people from our area discover the rewards of community service with an opportunity to learn while enhancing the lives of patients every day.
